Plans to redevelop The Hotspur Press in Manchester into a 595-bed purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA) scheme have been greenlit.

The development, brought forward by developer Manner, will aim to preserve as much of the existing brickwork as possible. The plans involve the construction of a new 37-storey tower, as well as a public square and connected public realm improvements. Manner will also plant new trees and enhance the adjacent River Medlock.
The developer said it has been working in collaboration with the local community to help shape and develop the planning application.
It is now actively looking for independent operators to occupy the building’s ground-floor commercial space.

“As we prepare for the construction phase to get under way, we will continue our engagement with the local community and help facilitate opportunities to develop plans that will celebrate the historical and cultural significance of this part of the city centre.”
Construction is expected to commence in early 2025 and is due for completion for the 2028-29 academic year.
Constructions costs have not yet been disclosed.
