Josh Green, Network Engineering Manager, received Cboe’s 2025 Outstanding Community Service Award for his decade-long volunteering with Scouting America. Scouting America was founded over 100 years to help young people develop strong ethical and moral character, guided by the Scout Oath and Law. The organization focuses on outdoorsmanship, ethical decision making and strong leadership development.

Josh was first introduced to Scouting America in the Kansas City area by his uncle, who encouraged him to join his local troop as a kid. As an adult, Josh became involved with the organization again when his son joined Cub Scouts. Josh now serves as a Scoutmaster, leading the same local troop he once participated in as a kid and helping to foster community through mentorship, activities and youth-led responsibilities.

“The real goal of the organization is to teach kids to become leaders and how to develop fundamental skills,” Josh says.

Josh leads his troop on monthly camping trips year-round, regardless of the season or weather. The kids learn how to set up tents, build fires and shelters, canoe, kayak and fish. Through the experience, the troop members also learn about the environment and earn merit badges. Not only do they get hands on experience outdoors, but they meet others in their community, fostering stronger connections.

“Scouting America provides a village for your child to be safe in and to meet people with differing lifestyles and experiences,” Josh says.

Josh recognizes the numerous Cboe associates who have volunteered with Scouting America and continue to be leaders for the youth in their communities. Volunteers are crucial to helping the organization mentor young people and provide them with a safe and engaging space to learn and grow.

Scouting America brings together children from different backgrounds, family situations and financial situations. There are numerous fundraising efforts that help ensure financial barriers do not prevent participation. In recognition of Josh’s volunteer efforts, Cboe will donate $5,000 to support various Scouting America initiatives, including: directly helping Scouts who cannot afford summer camp, supporting troop camping equipment costs, covering activity expenses and providing new opportunities to Scouts.
