A stunning Spanish-style estate in Los Angeles that was once home to celebrated actress Melanie Griffith has returned to the market for $5.8 million—after being elegantly “reimagined.”

Griffith—who is the mother of “Materialists” star Dakota Johnson—purchased the property for $3.75 million in March 2019, according to records, four years after it was sold by another of its very famous owners: TMZ founder Harvey Levin.

At the time, the 68-year-old “Lolita” star had been divorced from her third husband, Antonio Banderas, for four years, and the property is located just a short drive from the sprawling Mediterranean-style dwelling they once shared.

Griffith lived in the home for just five years before selling it for a significant profit. The dwelling fetched $4.7 million in an off-market deal that closed in September 2024.

In the years since, the property has, according to the listing, been “completely reimagined,” undergoing a significant renovation that brought new life to its 1937-built bones.

“Recently renovated and beyond verdant hedges and a secure gated driveway, this completely reimagined 1937 authentic Spanish offers both classic and modern programming as the ideal retreat from the city,” the listing, which is held by Jack Harris of The Beverly Hills Estates, notes.

Offering three bedrooms and three bathrooms, the spacious property spans just over 3,200 square feet. It is surrounded by verdant grounds that make the dwelling seem incredibly private and secluded, despite the fact that it is located just a “short stroll” from The Edition, Soho House, and The Bird Streets Club.

Bordered by elegantly manicured hedges and leafy trees, the property creates the perfect escape from city life, making it the ideal place for a celebrity owner to hide away from prying eyes.

Yet the home itself is anything but a hideaway, instead offering a spacious open floor plan that features a host of entertaining spaces, from a formal living room with a grand fireplace to a spacious chef’s kitchen with a cozy dining nook.

For more intimate, relaxed gatherings, there is also a comfy family room, with stunning striped wallpaper and large French doors that open to the backyard and pool area.

“Upon entry, you are greeted by an expansive long hallway and formal living room with fireplace and adjoining family room, drenched in natural sunlight,” the listing continues. “A renovated gourmet kitchen boasts state-of-the-art appliances, making it a haven for any culinary enthusiast.”

Two of the three bedrooms are located on the main floor of the home, along with two full bathrooms, while the second level features the stunning primary suite, which comes with a private balcony overlooking the beautiful backyard, as well as a spa-inspired bathroom.

That bathroom, which has been decorated with a large, floral-inspired light fixture, elegant subway tile, and hardwood floors, boasts an enormous walk-in shower and a separate soaking tub nestled in a bay window overlooking the yard.

Also found on the upper level is an enormous walk-in closet with light-up shelves that help to display clothing and accessories.

Vaulted ceilings give all of the bedrooms an expansive feel, while large windows flood the spaces with natural light.

One of the bedrooms has also been outfitted with a wall of built-ins that make it seem like a private library, while floral-patterned wallpaper adds an organic ambiance.

Despite its many amenities, the home has faced something of a tough time on the market. It was initially listed in May 2025 for $6.3 million, with the price slashed to $5.99 million seven months later.

It was taken off the market altogether in January 2026, before being relisted for $5.89 million. That listing was removed earlier this month, before it reappeared at the discounted ask of $5.8 million.

Interestingly, the dwelling sits just a 12-minute drive from another property with ties to Griffith—the longtime home of her actress daughter, who recently put her residence on the market for $6 million.

Johnson’s abode is a world away from her mother’s former dwelling, however. It boasts a classic midcentury modern design, which she carefully renovated after purchasing the home for $3.55 million in 2016.
