A captivating architect-designed residence on the south side of Moon Mountain in Santa Fe, NM, has hit the market for $3.25 million.

With its museum-quality interiors, the home at 7 Altazano Drive was conceived as a place where architecture, art, and landscape converge, an approach reflected in its inclusion in Archaeo Architects’ portfolio under the theme Stone, Water, Light.

Built in 2001 for the current owner, philanthropist and art collector Sharon Ettinger, the home was designed to showcase her significant collection of Native American art, as well as to serve as a place to host charity events.

“Sharon is an incredible collector of Native American art, and the home was very much built to showcase her collection,” says listing agent Beth Caldarello from The Agency, Santa Fe. “There are nichos, small indents in the walls, that hold art, as well as picture rails to keep the plaster walls pristine.”

From the outset, the architecture was guided by the landscape. One of the home’s most distinctive features centers around a natural boulder on the site, a place where Sharon and her husband once sat while imagining the home they hoped to build.

“The home is built around the boulder that she and her husband sat on as they dreamed about the land they were going to buy,” Caldarello explains.

“There is a waterfall feature around the boulder, and a stream-like feature that runs along one of the most spectacular home art walls I have seen.”

The residence’s flowing footprint further reinforces its connection to the land.

“The unique curve of the home was created to have the feel that it was embracing the land,” says Caldarello. “The architect spoke to Native American influences that helped him build into the land rather than on it.”

Inside, the atmosphere emulates a gallery. Expansive plaster walls and carefully considered sight lines create an environment that feels both serene and intentional, and more like a museum than a traditional home.

The outdoor living is equally compelling. A tranquil koi pond anchors the landscape, while patios capture sweeping views of the surrounding terrain. A guest casita, positioned on the second level, offers its own private retreat complete with a deck designed for enjoying Santa Fe’s famously clear night skies.

“The guesthouse has a wonderful deck, and we have incredible night skies here. The stargazing is out of this world,” says Caldarello.

Beyond the property itself, the location places residents within 10 minutes of Santa Fe’s historic Plaza, as well as hiking trails and St. John’s College.

Ultimately, the home stands apart for the intentionality built into every detail.

“This home was built so specifically. Whether you’re a collector or you enjoy the beauty of our landscape and entertaining, this property really has a lot to offer,” says Caldarello.
