    March Highlights

    U.S. Index Options

    Index options Average Daily Volume (ADV) reached a record 6.9 million index options contracts in March, rounding out a record first quarter. ADV in the first quarter of 2026 was 6.1 million.

    SPX Record Volumes

    • S&P 500 Index Options (SPX) had a record monthly ADV of 5.4 million contracts.
    • March 31 set the third highest volume day on record with 6.35 million contracts traded.

    XSP Record Volumes

    • Mini S&P 500 Index Options (XSP) set a new monthly ADV record of 222,000 thousand contracts.

    CBTX Record Volumes

    • Cboe Bitcoin U.S. ETF Index Options (CBTX) had a record monthly ADV with 1,200 contracts traded.
    • March 31 set a new daily volume record with 25,070 contracts traded.

    Global Trading Hours Session

    • A record ADV of 195,000 options contracts were traded during Global Trading Hours (GTH).

    U.S. Multi List Options

    Cboe EDGX Options Exchange

    • EDGX ADV increased 23% month-over-month to 3.6 million contracts.
    • March 20 marked a record day with 5.98 million contracts traded.

    U.S. Futures

    • Crypto Futures: Cboe Bitcoin Continuous Futures (PBT) had a record month with an ADV of 1,400 contracts traded.
    • VIX Index Futures (VX): VX futures volumes significantly increased this month to an ADV of 318,000 contracts.
