    Montauk Point Ltd., a Bermuda-based firm that provides independent advisory and strategic advice to third-party risk capital providers, has appointed 35-year insurance and reinsurance veteran Dr. Gero Michel to lead its risk and analytics platform.

    montauk-point-logoMontauk Point was launched in early 2025 by well-known reinsurance industry executive Adam Szakmary.

    The company refers to itself as a partner in navigating the complexities of re/insurance market capital participation.

    The company also specialises in helping third-party capital providers in areas such as portfolio construction, portfolio management lifecycle objectives, and other strategic portfolio considerations.

    Montauk Point is further enhancing its leadership team with the addition of Dr. Gero Michel, who, as stated by Montauk Point, will provide advanced risk capital analytics and advisory services to the firm’s clients, translating complex analysis into commercially viable insights.

    In addition to overseeing Montauk Point’s risk and analytics platform, Michel is also anticipated to provide risk analytics, portfolio optimisation, and strategic advisory tools and insights to bolster client strategies.

    Montauk Point also noted that in his new position, Michel will also translate complex model outputs into clear, decision-ready insights insights that promote capital efficiency and resilience; as well as develop and improve client-facing analytics capabilities, which encompass model governance, validation frameworks, and modern data tools.

    As mentioned, Michel brings over 35 years of global experience across insurance and reinsurance underwriting and enterprise risk management.

    Throughout his career, Michel held senior leadership roles at major firms such as AIG, Montpelier Re, RMS, Chaucer, and broker Aon.

    His expertise encompasses portfolio optimisation, capital allocation, and underwriting analytics, with extensive knowledge in catastrophe and emerging risks such as climate, cyber, and geopolitical exposures.

    As well as this, Michel has also advised boards, regulators, and global institutions on capital strategy and risk management.
