At more than $50 trillion dollars, the U.S. market is the largest equity market in the world. With Global Trading Hours (GTH), traders can conveniently access the broad U.S. market during their local trading day around the clock.

    Cboe index options, including:

    • S&P 500® Index (SPX®) options
    • Mini-SPX® Index (XSP®) options
    • Cboe Volatility Index® (VIX®) options
    • Russell 2000® Index (RUT℠) options

are available to trade nearly 24 hours a day, five days a week. With 24×5 trading hours, U.S. index options are globally accessible, allowing market participants to trade or hedge the broad U.S. market and global equity volatility across all time zones, day and night.

In addition to GTH, a brief Curb session following Regular Trading Hours (RTH) is available for traders to adjust, unwind, or close out trades. Curb sessions are all electronic trading, 3:15 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. CT Monday through Friday and are limited to SPX®, XSP® , VIX® , and RUT℠ options only. SPX FLEX® options can also be initiated. All activity during the Curb session will have the same Trade Date as the preceding RTH session. This in turn maximizes the time overlap with related future contacts. All hours are shown in each city’s respective time zone:

*Trading hours are determined by the time in Chicago. Note that Daylight Saving Time (DST) procedures vary by time zone and will affect the times shown here. For non-U.S. cities shown in this table, the trading hours may shift by one hour as the U.S. changes between Standard Time and Daylight Saving Time.

React Fast to Market Moving Events

With 24×5 trading hours, you can trade index options whenever the newest headline breaks. Why trade outside of regular U.S. trading hours? Here are a few reasons:

    • Global macroeconomic events: Global markets can turn at any time, and you should be able to trade as news happens.
    • Economic reports and announcements: Be prepared for any potential market swings.
    • Geopolitical risks: More flexible trading with longer, global trading hours.

There are important risks associated with transacting in any of the Cboe Company products or any digital assets discussed here. Before engaging in any transactions in those products or digital assets, it is important for market participants to carefully review the disclosures and disclaimers contained at: www.cboe.com/us_disclaimers/. These products and digital assets are complex and are suitable only for sophisticated market participants. These products involve the risk of loss, which can be substantial and, depending on the type of product, can exceed the amount of money deposited in establishing the position. Market participants should put at risk only funds that they can afford to lose without affecting their lifestyle.

Global Trading Hours (GTH) The trading hours for options on the SPX, SPXW (SPX Weeklys and SPX End-of-Month), and XSP (Mini-SPX) begin at 8:15 p.m. Eastern time and end at 9:25 a.m. Eastern time. Please visit the Global Trading Hours page for more details.
