Swiss Re Insurance-Linked Strategies Inc. is the new name for the global reinsurance firm’s dedicated insurance-linked securities investment management business, as Swiss Re looks to provide a clearer representation of the value proposition of this unit.
For the full-history of the ILS management business unit names, you have to go back to 2020 when Swiss Re first established Swiss Re Insurance-Linked Investment Management Ltd. (SRILIM) which was a unit that managed a private ILS strategy (the Core Nat Cat Fund) that enabled investors to align with the reinsurance giant and invest into its natural catastrophe book.
Then, Swiss Re Insurance-Linked Investment Advisors Corporation (SRILIAC) was set up by Swiss Re in 2022 as an SEC registered investment advisor, offering insurance-linked securities investment funds and services to qualified institutional investors, primarily in catastrophe bonds.
In 2025, Swiss Re sought to simplify the offering with a plan to bring together its insurance-linked securities (ILS) investment management operations under the Swiss Re Insurance-Linked Investment Advisors Corporation (SRILIAC) brand.
That saw SRILIAC becoming the brand name for managing catastrophe bond investment funds, as well as the private ILS fund strategy that allocates capital to shares in Swiss Re’s nat cat business.
Recently, Swiss Re also updated the leadership of SRILIAC, naming Leigh Weissman as CEO of the ILS investment management business, while Dr. Mariagiovanna Guatteri remained focused solely on leading the investment strategy as CIO of the unit.
Now, the SRILIAC brand name goes away, to be replaced by Swiss Re Insurance-Linked Strategies Inc.
There is no change to any of the services offered, or to the investment strategy, we understand. This is is purely a rebranding exercise as Swiss Re looks to more clearly communicate the value proposition of its ILS investment management business.
It makes sense to simplify the name, now all ILS investment strategies and funds fall under the remit of a single business unit, now Swiss Re Insurance-Linked Strategies Inc., for their management.
Recall that, Swiss Re Insurance-Linked Strategies manages a range of strategies from catastrophe bond funds, through to private ILS strategies that allocate their capital to shares in its catastrophe reinsurance business, as well as managed accounts for larger investors such as its relatively recent mandate win with California pension giant CalPERS.
