In this edition of Just Listed–a series from Redfin News that explores homes that are listed by Redfin or Compass agents on Redfin.com–we’re exploring an unfinished estate in Maryland.

Set on more than 38 private acres in the rolling countryside of Howard County, MD, The Devlin Estate is listed for $5 million. The unfinished compound at 15125 Devlin Drive in Glenelg offers buyers a rare opportunity to complete a spacious, ultra-luxury estate tailored to their own vision.

“It has the kind of privacy and luxury that only over 32 acres and 32,000 square feet allows you to have. It’s a once in a lifetime legacy purchase, and gives you the space to really live the life that you want to live,” said Redfin principal agent Hazel Shakur, who is listing the property.

The current owners of the property envisioned it to have resort-style amenities. This is an AI-rendered image, used to show what the property could look like when it is finished.

The Devlin Estate is already framed and enclosed, allowing a future owner to bypass years of approvals, permitting, and foundational construction work. The current owners of the property envisioned it to have resort-style amenities, including a private bowling alley, dedicated theater room, wine storage, sauna, elevator, expansive spa-inspired bathrooms, and multiple gourmet kitchen and entertaining spaces.

“It’s a blank canvas. Even though the current owners designed the space, the new owner could certainly go in a different direction if they were so inclined,” Shakur said.

Plans for the house include eight bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, expansive entertaining areas, and dramatic architectural details throughout. The primary bedroom suite is planned to be two stories–including a two-story shoe closet. At the center of the design is a sculptural floating spiral staircase connecting all three levels of the home, while walls of windows frame sweeping countryside views from nearly every angle.

“It’s like having your own private resort, especially because of the amazing primary bedroom suite. The primary alone is like having your own thank-you gift for all the hard work that allowed you to purchase such a property,” Shakur said. “The whole property feels like a retreat, but it’s still so close to Baltimore and Washington D.C.”

Howard County’s updated regulations also allow for an ADU,  which could be used as a private guest house or staff quarters. All uses are subject to county approval.

The property’s footprint extends far beyond the main house. The grounds offer a secluded setting with room for additional recreational amenities, gardens, or equestrian facilities, all while remaining within commuting distance of Baltimore and Washington, D.C.

For buyers seeking a one-of-one estate, The Devlin Estate presents the perfect opportunity to take on a project with much of the heavy lifting already complete.

“Watching people see the house for the first time is always a treat. Even though it’s unfinished, it’s impressive and just fun to walk through the house,” Shakur said.
