Best Buy is already selling the MacBook Neo at a discount – and the catch isn’t so bad

Apple just launched the MacBook Neo, but we’re already seeing some discounts. Best Buy is selling devices for as low as $561 with its open-box discount. This means the product was either opened or returned, and it is still marked as “Good” quality by their Geek Squad team.

The Neo has only been available for two days, so it’s unlikely that a lot of these products have been used extensively. They’ve likely simply been opened or just purchased and returned. If you’re looking to save a few extra bucks, it’s certainly worth checking out.

You might not see the discount option at first. Just scroll down past “Add to Cart” to the “More Buying Options” button. If you have open-box products available, you’ll see the option to add them to your cart there.

Prices may vary by region, but you should get the option to save $20-$30 or more, depending on stock.

Regularly starting at $599, the MacBook Neo is an entry-level MacBook with the A18 Pro chip — the same processor found in the iPhone 16 Pro. This makes it exceptional at everyday tasks like web browsing, light creative work, and multitasking through Apple’s iPhone integrations.

On the flip side, it’s not as powerful as a MacBook Air or a MacBook Pro for more demanding workflows. But the 13-inch Neo emulates the MacBook experience very well. It’s slim, light, and has a fantastic Liquid Retina display that’s not as flashy as the MacBook Pro, but very good compared to budget PCs.

Also: MacBook Neo proves that Microsoft had the right idea, but the wrong execution

The base model comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of local storage. If you want to double the storage up to 512GB, it’ll cost you an extra $100.

Keep in mind this is a pretty light amount of disk space, allowing the Neo to excel at working out of the browser and accessing files from the cloud — not as a repository for all your photos or videos.

Best Buy’s open-box deals aren’t necessarily going away anytime soon, but now is a smart time to jump on one since the laptop has only been out for a few days. It’s not likely we’ll see significant discounts on the Neo for a few months, but even then — Apple won’t likely award much higher discounts than this on new products.

Deals are subject to sell-out or expire at any time, though ZDNET remains committed to finding, sharing, and updating the best product deals for you to score the best savings. Our team of experts regularly checks in on the deals we share to ensure they are still live and obtainable. We’re sorry if you’ve missed out on this deal, but don’t fret — we’re constantly finding new chances to score savings and sharing them with you at ZDNET.com.
