Former Hiscox ILS executive Aaron García Ehrhardt has now confirmed his new role being as the Head of Capital & Underwriting at Hannover Re Capital Partners (HCP), the global reinsurance firm’s recently established Bermuda-based insurance-linked securities (ILS) platform.

aaron-garcia-hannover-re-capital-partnersHannover Re announced the impending launch of its new Hannover Re Capital Partners unit in Bermuda last August and at the time said it was seen as a way to round-out its offering to ILS investors and the market, while creating a new avenue to manage and deploy third-party capital to augment its business activities and drive additional fee income opportunities.

It was already known at the time that Aaron García Ehrhardt was set to join the Hannover Re ILS investment venture in a senior role.

Now, he has confirmed starting the position, saying in a LinkedIn post that the role he is taking on is as Head of Capital & Underwriting at Hannover Re Capital Partners (HCP).

“I’m joining Hannover Re to help build and develop Hannover Re Capital Partners, focused on long-term thinking, disciplined execution, and partnership,” he explained.

García Ehrhardt had worked at Hiscox ILS, the insurance-linked securities unit of global insurance and reinsurance group Hiscox back in 2017.

Initially a Portfolio Manager for Hiscox ILS, García Ehrhardt first became a Principal in 2020 and most recently Head of Investments ILS at that firm in 2022.

Before his time at Hiscox ILS, he had worked in the Lloyd’s market at Novae syndicate, based in both Zurich and Bermuda, with a focus on underwriting international property catastrophe risk. He began his career as a broker at JLT in London.

García Ehrhardt brings Hannover Re’s new Bermuda ILS platform a wealth of experience across underwriting for and portfolio management of ILS investment strategies.

With the establishment of Hannover Re Capital Partners (HCP) clearly well-underway, it’s going to be interesting to see how quickly the new platform can generate traction among investors, being the first Bermuda-based dedicated ILS investment unit from one of the big four European reinsurance firms.
