(World Oil) – Halliburton has introduced a new injection system designed to support carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) operations, as operators seek improved reliability and performance in CO₂ injection wells.

The XTR™ CS injection system is a wireline-retrievable safety valve engineered for use in CCUS wells, where high pressures, temperatures and corrosive conditions can present operational challenges. The system can function as a primary or contingency safety valve and may also be deployed as a deep-set flowback prevention device in injection environments.

According to the company, the system features a non-elastomeric design intended to reduce potential leak paths and eliminate reliance on hydraulic control systems typically used in surface-controlled wireline valves. The design is intended to maintain consistent performance across varying setting depths and operating conditions, supporting more standardized deployment and inventory management.

The injection system can be configured to accommodate different injection media and fluid properties, with features designed to manage pressure drop, maintain flow performance and reduce component wear. High-velocity flow paths are directed away from sealing areas to help extend service life in high-rate injection environments.

The launch reflects growing industry focus on well integrity and equipment performance as CCUS projects scale globally. Service companies and operators are continuing to develop completion and wellbore technologies tailored to long-term CO₂ injection, where reliability and containment assurance are key considerations for project viability and regulatory compliance.
