    Want luxury amenities without a small, cramped space? Consider Atlanta, Georgia and its suburbs. Here, homebuyers with larger budgets can get the most bang for their buck—at least in terms of space.

    A recent report from Realtor.com found that Atlanta had the most spacious luxury homes among U.S. metro areas. The median size for listings ranging from $1 million to $2 million was 4,530 square feet.

    Atlanta wasn’t the only Southern metropolis on the list either. Both Houston and Dallas made the list with median square footage of upscale home listings topping 4,000 square feet.

    Moreover, you don’t have to move to the South to live lavishly and have a spacious home. Denver, Colorado, located in the Mountain West, and Minneapolis, Minnesota in the Midwest both make the list.

    “In these Southern and Midwest metros, luxury dollars stretch further, and buyers can often find larger, newer homes with premium amenities at a price point that would buy a far smaller property in places like Los Angeles or Miami,” wrote Anthony Smith, an economist at Realtor. com. “This combination of relative affordability, space, and newer construction continues to draw affluent buyers seeking value without sacrificing comfort or quality.”

    Generally, people who want homes in coastal areas must be willing to sacrifice space when buying a home—unless they have a lot of money to spend.

    In urban metro Honolulu, Hawaii, the median size for listings ranging from $1 million to $2 million was just 1,651 square feet. The price per square foot for luxury listings in that area was $827.21, more than 2.5 times the cost in the Atlanta area.

    Other metro areas that homebuyers should avoid if they want roomy homes include numerous hub cities in California—like San Francisco, San Jose, and Los Angeles—as well as New York, New York.
