    Key Takeaways

    • Compared to other Western European countries, Portugal stands out for its affordability, with cheaper flights, accommodations, and activities
    • Mexico and the Dominican Republic can be great options for low-cost beach getaways.
    • Budget-friendly hotspots for 2025 also include destinations in Asia, where hotel rates can dip well under $100 per night.

Were you hoping to eat your way across Italy or climb mountains in Hawaii, but don’t have the budget to make it happen this year?

While visiting certain locations can be pricey, if you’re willing to be flexible with where you travel to, there’s no need to skip out on your vacation this year. There are many destinations across the world—from locations in Western Europe to the Caribbean to Southeast Asia—that you can travel to while still sticking to a budget.

We connected with travel experts and asked them what their top affordable vacation destination picks were for 2025.

If You Want To Escape To Europe

Choose a budget-friendly destination in 2025. Your money will last longer, and you can still have an enjoyable vacation.

“For those seeking a European destination, Portugal is a great option where you’ll find lower rates and activity costs than many other Western European countries,” said Jennifer Yellin, a travel expert with Points Path.

Getting to Portugal and staying there for a holiday is easy and affordable.

“Many airlines have also added more flights to the country, allowing more tourists year after year. The country also offers a wide range of accommodations, allowing those on a budget to rent a home or hotel for significantly less than many other European destinations,” Yellin said.

If You Want To Travel To The Top Locations of 2025

Melanie Fish, a travel expert with Expedia, outlines her top options for budget travelers in 2025, which range from locations in the Balkans to Latin America.

    • Mexico City, Mexico
    • Oaxaca, Mexico
    • Panama City, Panama
    • Tirana, Albania
    • Lithuania
    • Normandy, France
    • Okinawa, Japan
    • Phuket, Thailand
    • Manila, Philippines

“These destinations all offer fantastic value for money when it comes to daily hotel rates. This is especially true for Okinawa, Phuket, and Tirana, where hotel stays can be found for well under $100 per night,” Fish said.

If You Want To Head To The Beach

There are also budget travel options for people seeking beach holidays, especially at locations like resorts.

“If you’re looking for a beach destination, Mexico and the Dominican Republic offer many all-inclusive hotel options where you’ll get more bang for your buck,” Yellin said.

If You’re Willing To Splurge On Flights

Those willing to travel a greater distance and spend more on airline tickets should consider a getaway to Southeast Asia.

“If you’re willing to endure a long flight, Southeast Asia is a must-visit. While your flight prices might be more expensive—albeit a perfect opportunity to use your airline points and miles—you can easily eat out for less than $5,” Yellin said.

Bryce Collins, marketing director at Intro Travel, recommends India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, and Bolivia as affordable destinations in 2025.

“These places are popular in 2025 because they give the best mix of adventure and affordability. You can still get hostels for under $10, eat great street food for a couple of dollars, and use transport systems for spare change, all while ticking off the big ticket experiences,” Collins said.

    The Bottom Line

You don’t need to travel to Hawaii or have a jet set lifestyle in order to afford travel this year. By opting to visit a more affordable destination, you can take that much-needed vacation while also staying under budget.

Whether you want to spend your holiday on the beach or you’re set on visiting Europe, there are a ton of travel destinations that can offer you a solid bang for your buck.
